Berlin is the Capital of Germany, but many of its most popular dishes aren’t actually German. Here we talk about 5 things tourists, travelers and visitors to Berlin should try when they do visit Berlin. #1. Currywurst – Bratwurst drowned in Curry Ketchup #2. Berliner Weisse – Beer mixed with a fruit syrup #3. Berliner Pfannkuechen – jelly donut that Kennedy made famous by saying, “Ich bin ein Berliner” which translates to, I am a jelly donut. #4. Eat Turkish or Greek food to enjoy some of the international flavor of Berlin. #5. Some of the German favorites of Berlin. Eisbein, Kassler, Bouletten, kartoffelpuffer, and so much more. When I went to Berlin, one of the top things that I wanted to do was try currywurst and it was just as brilliant as I expected.

I heard about a burger place called Burgermeister in which is located on SCHLESISCHES TOR, Oberbaumstraße 8 (not too far from East Side Gallery), an open-air restaurant under a bridge that used to be a men's toilet.

Try RisA-Chicken. It's like KFC but halal and much much cheaper and awesomely tasty!
Also: Chili Cheese Fries right next to the RAW-Gelände.
Also: Some Vegan Libanesian guy calle Falafel Dream in a food bus on Müllerstraße who treats you like Seinfelds Soup nazi if you are not ordering fast enough.
Also: Goat Kebab but I forgot the place because I might have been a little drunk.

I went to Berlin 12 years ago and spent a month there. I had all of these 5 things (multiple times, lol), and I'm happy to see that Currywurst has become sort of popular, but Berliner Weisse is still hard to find, even in NY. One of the places I ate at that stuck with me was called Markthallen, it was in the Kreuzberg section of the city, and it served up more traditional German food. I had the Weiner Schnitzel, which seems a little typical, but it's a German dish, in Germany, so I didn't care if it was kinda pedestrian.

Try the Oldenburger Grünkohl in the 1st 1/4 of the year with pinkel ( special sausage extra made for this meal) its really traditional in north germany. My tip: mix it up with a Little mustard 😉

the problem with those "jelly filled donuts" is: in the south of Germany they are called "Krapfen", in the rest of Germany they are called "Berliner", BUT in Berlin you have to say "Pfannkuchen" !!!
that's the little fight between the germans 😉

Right now my two favorite German foods are Sauerbraten and German potato salad. I’ve had them both made by American cooks, but I wonder how different they taste when made by Germans. I usually use top or bottom round for sauerbraten. I better look into it.

A Yugoslavian restaurant in Berlin was my favorite with great food for BIG appetites at a reasonable price and the Mass bier! 1 liter at a time!
